Good Afternoon All, So, it's time for some fun Saturday updates and for me to provide you a little insight into what I've been up to and what I'm currently working on. Let. Us. Now. Begin. Almost Ready. Okay. First up, in relation to the post that I put out a few weeks ago about the (fantasy) series I'll be publishing: Well, you may be asking, where is it? And the answer to that is, coming, soon, hopefully, I swear. Not in the George R. R. Martin kind of way, looking at you Winds of Winter, but in the T.S.Smith sort of way. It is being worked on, I can assure you of that much at least. And I have a very basic idea and template of what I'd like to introduce in the story. The first book is being fleshed out as we speak and the first chapter of that book (which will be arriving soon here on this site) is planned but not yet written. I have a general sense of what it will be and it is plotted with some major story tentpoles. But the key for this type of series is that the ideas I bring up in relation to the entire story during this first book, I want to be consistent with the last. Think Roland and his quest for the Dark Tower, it is consistent through every book. So the planning is going to take place up front, then I can start releasing bits of this first book. I'm not sure exactly how long until I start getting the section up but my original estimation of "in the next couple months" is accurate. I'm thinking maybe 4-6 weeks from today before you all are introduced to the series! And I can't wait to let you all in :-) A picture of my lifestyle when I'm not hard at work... or rather, when I am hard at work instead of being at a job.
Second update, I'm reading that guy up there ---^. It is kind of a self-help novel for people who write novels and I can definitely say that we need help! Mostly of the mental kind. Professional athletes practice every week even though they've been playing their entire life. Why do they do this? In the pursuit of becoming a greater player. And like athletes, the same goes for authors, we need practice too. Sure, I've written a couple books but I need consistent training, experience, and a strong work ethic to become a better writer. My intention is to work, to learn, to understand, all in an effort to bring stories that have greater meaning and entertainment value to you, the reader. I'm doing it for you guys. Third update, I just re-read Return of the King to get myself in the mood for my series and damn, what a sad ending in LotR. I know, I know, there is happiness that the movie shows a bit more prevalently than the novel, but the last couple paragraphs of the book sure do tug at the heart strings. That was some good stuff. My take on Lord of the Rings after this last round was that it is about how even if you are on the winning side of a war, some of the damage done to a person cannot be undone. Frodo's physical and emotional wounds are just too much to bear for his character. And Sam, even after the scouring of the Shire and his new marriage and fatherhood, is left alone after a great journey in a moment of sadness. "Well, I'm back." Friends depart, we experience loss, and the war/destruction that our homes experience just push us to the brink. The destruction of the Ring doesn't fix all...but it does give a brighter future to the next generation. Anyway, hope everything is well on this Saturday afternoon. If you have any book suggestions, send them my way. -TS From atop the Tower of the Dead it proclaimed, "There is nothing you can do. From the north He comes, with warriors born of snow and flame."
